As the Paris Motor Show gets underway Honda have unveiled their latest Civic Type R. Currently in prototype form, expect the official reveal of the new Type R early 2017.

Initial indications point to a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, just like the outgoing version. 340+hp is expected up from the 310hp output from the current Type R. Indications also point to FWD with the Japanese angry at the Germans nicking their FWD nurburgring record with the VW Golf GTI Clubsport S. Indications from the Honda Reps at the Paris show say its as close to production spec as possible so expect the 2017 car to be a very close cousin of this concept.

As for the styling? Honda say all the aero is functional with the design ‘all in pursuit of performance’. Civic Type R styling has always been divisive. It seems you either love it or hate it and this may be the case with the latest Type R.

Not much new to report then. You wait 8 years for a new Type R and two come at once. Except, just one thing..

The 2017 Civic Type R will land in the states – for the first time ever – and regardless of whether you like the styling its surely a better option than a Ford F150.
