It is official. Massa is back in F1. Cars247 first gave you the news that an unlikely comeback after just two months in retirement was on the cards back in December.
Massa will partner 18 year old rookie Lance Stroll at Williams next season. As we predicted in December the Massa deal shortly followed the news Mercedes have been successful in luring Valtteri Bottas to the silver arrows.
“I always intended to race somewhere in 2017, but Williams is a team close to my heart and I have respect for everything it is trying to achieve,” said Massa. “Valtteri has a great opportunity, given the turn of events over the winter, and I wish him all the best at Mercedes.”
In rejoining Williams, Massa will extend his F1 career into a 16th year, having driven for Sauber, Ferrari and Williams, registering 11 victories and 41 podiums.
